Nothing beats free coffee
I got my free coffee at Peet’s for the last time today (I am a little sad because I didn’t know that today was April 30. I thought I could still go back tomorrow – bummer!). Peet’s was giving away free coffee every day from 1 – 3 PM in April in honor of their 40th anniversary. This was a great idea. I planed my days in April around the 1 – 3 slot so I could make it to Peet’s and get my free coffee fix. Peet’s is the strongest of the “hip” coffee chains and their coffee jolt is not for beginners. But for diehard coffee junkies like me, Peet’s is a real heavenly gift. True, it is also a pre-packaged, corporate joint like Starbucks, and true, it is not as hip as the ERC, but the coffee is good and I guess that is all that matters – I can get the coffee to go if I need a cooler environment. (BTW – I hate to destroy the myth, but the ERC is also a corporate joint, they are just undercover – check out their website and see how big they really are). Maybe we can start a campaign to get all the coffee places to give it away for free.

Coffee? Coffee!?! Tzvi… tell me you haven’t given up your morning ambrosia–a blended puree of fruits, berries and yesterday’s leftovers. Anyway, instead of looking for the hippest coffee joints or exposing the not-so-hip, you should infuse cool into wherever you happen to be. Walk into ERC, order a medium black, pull out a thermos of your latest concotion and slowly combine it with the coffee. Dude. Now you’ve created your own drink and addied a whole new dimension to the place. If you could get your band together to play klezmer music in the background while you do it, you’ll be golden….
BTW, let’s hang.

Yeah, Tzvi, Peet’s is the best! Ever since I moved to Coolidge Corner I’ve become one the morning regulars at Peet’s. Welcome back to the caffienate-side.

More free coffee! McDonald’s now has “Newman’s Own” iced coffee, and they’re giving it away for free over the weekend (starting Thursday). Kosher?

Simon, I just tried the fruit/coffee concoction. I think I am going to barf.
Jabbett – great question. Generally most coffee is kosher (unless it is flavored, but what self-respecting coffee drinker would ever drink “hazelnut” or anything along those lines?), but getting it at McDonald’s raises a host of problems both in terms of it being kosher and what it would look like if you were seen going in there to get it. If you want my opinion, I think it is Satan trying to seduce you. Stay away, stick with Peet’s and Starbucks.
