Tango, car
I know I am a real dork, but I am really excited about this new small car. It fits two to a highway lane, four in a standard parallel parking spot, runs on electricity, and can park perpendicular to the curb. In theory, if I got one of these I could save a fortune (never have to get gas), zip between lanes of traffic, and park everywhere. It is all the advantages of a motorcycle, but it is a car. No leather, no wind in the face, a place to keep your stuff. I heard them talk about it on the radio and they say it is safe – cool. The only problem is that it is still only a prototype and they sell for about $108,000 – kills any gas savings but hey, if anyone wants to buy me one – I hear they make great gifts.

I should add just how awesome and eco-friendly this electric car is. (And the say it only takes 20 minutes to charge up to 80% capacity). Cheap and clean – you really can’t beat it. I should also add that in spite of how much I love the hip environmental side of this car – I happen to live in freezing cold Boston (meaning I am also a HUGE fan of global warming). So until I can afford my $108,000 dream car, I am going to drive my gas guzzler, warm up the atmosphere, and hopefully turn Boston into San Diego.

Good luck running carpool with that.

I think except for the price, the only other thing that must be changed is the design and style. That car seems to be molded in the shape of a file cabinet with wheels. But for saving the planet, perhaps they should first work on affordability.

oo no Abbie Z - I think the look is pretty hip. If you surf the NPR site (linked in the post) there are some more racey models too.

How cute is that car?! I saw it (or something like it) last summer in Greece. They were all over, and very neatly parked in those tiny spots on the city streets.
