Global warming: fun for the whole family
I was always a big fan of global warming, especially since moving to Boston. If climate changes kept up as predicted, then eventually Boston would be mild and pleasant like San Diego. I don’t love San Diego, but I love their weather and for a period I was inspired to drive my gas-guzzler and use more aerosols in an attempt to do my part to “warm up Boston.” All these airy fantasies came to an end when my niece informed me that really global warming doesn’t mean better, warmer weather – rather it means more extreme weather – i.e. Boston will have a colder winter and a hotter summer – not a pleasant thought at all.
I can ramble all day about my love and loss over the fate of global warming, but now I don’t have to – Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma has done that for me. As a matter of fact – yesterday he went on and on in a speech to the Senate about global warming – and he said it was a scam. A scam! I still appreciate the aesthetic qualities of environmentally correct living (like clean air and clean water) and I like hippy stuff like nature and hiking, but give me a break – if the Senator is correct then I want my Styrofoam back and I want a one-year moratorium on roll-on – more sprays! More smoke!
Ultimately, I don’t think anyone really knows what they are talking about. Big business wants to sell more cars and the lefties want to sell more granola. I will stick to the Jewish way of doing things – realize that your actions in the spiritual world make a real impact on the physical – if you want to clean up the environment then first clean up yourself.

Wow. A real tour de force by the Senator. Though I fell asleep in the middle, as near as I can gather, his central claim is “people have been wrong before, therefore they’re probably wrong now.” I don’t think I need to explicitly point out the fallacy in this type of thinking. There is no question that humans have had and are continuing to have a destructive impact on the environment. Arguing over whether “global warming” is real is a red herring. Forests, arable land, drinkable water and fisheries are all in decline. New technologies won’t solve these problems(in fact technology has only increased the pace of destruction). Would that our leaders address these issues rather than stall and roadblock so that their real constituents(Oklahoma is a big oil-producing state) can continue to destroy non-replaceable resources. And while I certainly agree that cleaning up oneself is in order, being blind to the future suffering of billions can’t be good for one’s spiritual health. Beliveing that humans can cause irreperable damage to the Earth isn’t a lack of faith, it’s a wanton act of foolishness. Nobody would poor arsenic into their town’s well and expect it to disappear; why is this less problematic to people when it’s on a grander scale and can cause far more harm?

suggestion:
see and inconvient truth, it is the al gore movie about global warming, well either that or spend days researching, but if you want most of the facts with a lot of emotion and sad music then that is the movie for you. He has a lot of statistics that it took me weeks to find elsewhere, and it is also not fatalistic or selling anything, well perhaps lightbulbs. Goodluck and i hope to see you soon.
