Jew power
There are now 13 Jews in the US Senate – how cool is that? I don’t know if I did my math correctly, but Jews are about .013% of the American population (about 4 million Jews live in the US and there are 300 million Americans) – this means we are much more powerful and successful then we should be. My only question is why do 87% of all Jews vote Democrat?

This is great news! What’s more, Lieberman was re-elected despite all the pre-election craziness!
As for voting, the Christian influence on the Republican party brings them closer than the Democrats to Torah moral values. So you ask a very good question!

Well, take a look at modern day american jews. We primarily live in northern cities and suburbs. That alone adds a liberal side to our nature. Also, we are a minority and historically, minorities tend towards the liberal point of view.
More than anything else, here is why I think American jews tend to Democrats. EDUCATION!!! If there is one thing I took away from my time with Aish it is this… Judaism is based on knowledge, not faith. It is very unfortunate that modern Republicans have adopted a standpoint of policy through faith. Why cant gays get married… because they don’t believe in that kind of family. Why cant we use stem cell research…. because they dont believe in “killing” unborn babies. Why shouldn’t there be abortion… because they believe that even fi a child doesn’t have a functional heart, it is still alive. Why should we stay fighting a war in Iraq… because we believe in the cause.
I am not saying that I disagree with all Republican policy, because I dont in many respects. What I disagree with is a country run on faith. If they made policies based on knowledge, they would find out how many lives could be saved by stem cell research… etc. They could even back up some fo their policies that, because they arent based on fact, seem ridiculous.
From a Democratic standpoint, this approach seems ignorant. And Judaism has no tolerance for ignorance. Again, We are a people of Knowledge!
And if that isn’t it, maybe we are just too hip to be associated with the “square” Republicans.

Batya Elissa, you are absolutely correct. The Republican party is much more in tune with Torah values than just about anything offered by the Dems. In addition, I find the modern Republicans to be Israel’s strongest supporters - they are not blinded by this moral equivalency craziness. True - their motivation is a little disturbing, but for now I think we should take all the help we can get.

Ian baby - I totally agree that education is a core Jewish value - and that is why the Republicans are the logical choice for the educationally conscious Jew. Think SCHOOL VOUCHERS. A private Jewish education is very expensive. School vouchers are not a perk for the rich; they help low/middle income families with children in private schools. The Dems oppose these and are for many of us anti-education. I should also point out that the Torah view on many of the social issues you listed is actually very consistent with the Republican stance – true, Judaism is a knowledge-based belief system, but many of our beliefs (that we can back up with rational verification) come up solidly in the conservative camp.

Assuming your numbers of 4 million Jews and 300 million Americans are correct, that would be 1.3%. Watch those decimal points.!

Thanks Nick - you beat me to the punch. I had this exact discussion with my guests this Shabbos. My calculation was indeed correct, however I forgot to then move that decimal over two points. You are correct and if my number of 4,000,000 is true, then Jews constitute 1.3% of the population of America and not .013%.

Excellent comment and stats. And accurate too. Jews are an aggressive, controlling, dominating people…..it’s part of their nature.
For centuries they’ve been persecuted; the big question being WHY?
It’s not difficult to find the solution. They are a highly skilled, intelligent race who work collectively to take over any sector of society that has ‘control’ over the ‘thinking’ process of a nation.
Hence the jewish control of world media, the process by which people receive information, or in most cases disinformation.
Jews are present, and controlling, in every aspect of society, from sitting on the Supreme Court, filling up the Presidents’ Cabinet (Bill Clinton), to all aspects of the Arts & Sciences, local goverments, even the editors of school textbooks et alia. It is truly amazing to watch as “they” take over a company, a coutroom, a corporation, and even a nation.
The present war in Iraq, or any Middle Eastern conflict is NOT as we are told, the USA V. Freedom for the People. It is simply Muslim v. Jew. Why is Israel so protected, so important to the World? It is a Jewish controlled country strongly supported by the Jews in America who will do everything in their power to keep it.
Going back to the ‘68 war when Israel was attacked from the south, the jews in Philadelphia alone raised a few million $$ to support their brethren………that was then, even before jews held such high-ranking posts as they do today.
The irony of the “holocaust” where supposedly 6 million perished during WW2 is the Russian Revolution where a few million more people perished at the hands of Jewish Russians.
History will of course repeat itself, meaning the Jews will once again become the “hunted ones”.
