Obama at the Kotel
Check out this video – it is Obama at the Kotel at 5 AM.
I am surprised that Obama’s handlers didn’t make the effort to learn about the Wall’s daily prayer services. At 5 AM the pious Jews of Jerusalem are at the Wall to pray with the rising sun (about 1,000 people are there on any given morning – all year long). Before staging a massive media event at an important holy site – I think it is important to learn what goes on there so as not to disturb the regulars. (Though to be fair, it doesn’t look like anyone cares.)
A few points from the video:
- I think Obama looks great in a kipa – maybe he is really Jewish. Has anyone explored this possibility?
- Obama didn’t kiss the Wall. I think he is afraid. I often find that non-Jews are afraid to get too close (Jews push their bodies right up to it, kiss it, hold on to it.)
- Although Obama looks great in a kipa, his security team looks ridiculous. If Obama really wants to be president, he needs to teach his team about Jewish fashion.
- Why is Obama wearing a black bracelet and how did he avoid the red string people? Maybe Madonna and her Kaballah friends can send him one – I would hate for Obama to feel he missed out on an essential cultural experience.
I am surprised that Obama was up so early. You may say, “jetlag.” But I say, “forget jetlag, if he had eaten a shwarma then clearly he would be sleeping.” Once again – more proof Obama is a flawed (albeit stylish) candidate.

I loved this article. I watched the news footage of Obama at the Kosel…he looked wrong. You’re right, it was probably due to him not partaking of the culinary delights that one can behold at Maoz schwarma.
I think the black band on his wrist is one of those rubber bands that everyone wears that expresses their affiliation with some group or support of some cause. Whatever, is was a great article.

This is the ultimate Obama site - http://obamawtf.blogspot.com/ - all the issues and associations with anti-Semites.

How about his note getting publicized? Do you think that’s a smart move by his campaign? Nice written note (if it’s really his), thought it was kind of “all about me”.

Hey Igor - according to the Jerusalem Post, a Yeshiva student took it after the crowd left and gave it over to the press. Most wouldn’t print it, but the Israeli daily “Ma’ariv” did - and the rest is history.
I agree it is a nice note and I was impressed by what he said. I am not a fan of printing it though - whether it was staged by his campaign or not - the concept of a “note to G-d” should be respected and kept private.

[…] I mentioned in an earlier post that Obama does look great in a kipa, and I stand by that – he has style. But if he can’t grow a beard then what good does all that style do him? Not much. […]

Tzvi, I did not watch the video, but I think he actually showed up early to avoid the press, hoping they would not get up this early, and also to avoid disturbing too many people later in the day…or to just get it over with bright and early? who knows..well, kissing the wall..maybe he thought it is too holy for him to be kissing it, out of respect, but you make an interesting point here, we Jewish people tend to kiss holy things dear to us..
